Melbourne Cricket Ground

Known by Melburnians as ”The G,” the MCG is located inside Yarra Park and within walking distance of the city centre. Largest cricket stadium in the Southern Hemisphere and the eleventh largest in the world. The first construction opened its doors in 1853 however has been renovated multiple times since then. The stadium hosted the 1956 Olympics and the 2006 Commonwealth games. Although the name may suggest otherwise, the playing ground has strong ties with the Australian rules football since 1859 and yearly hosts the Australian Football League matches, including the AFL grand finale, the world’s busiest football match by attendance.
